NYBG

I'm off to New York for the week. We are taking down the exhibition at the Botanical Gardens. (Woo first business trip) I'm sure I'll have much to write about when I get back.
I picked up a few more things for the apartment this weekend...

A headboard:

and a storage cabinet. (A Danish Modern Buffet if you will):

Thanks be to Craig's List.

Apartment Update

The apartment is gradually coming together. We still don't have a couch, but I have acquired a few more choice items. For instance the best clock EVER:

$18.50 on the bay. These suckers go for like 150 norm, but I got this deal cause there is a missing spike and no key. You know what I say to that... not a problem, because I'm resourceful-like. I picked up a key from a local clock shop in Ballard, and I'm working with one of the metal fabricators at my job to make a new spike. (God I love fixing things.)

The next thing that needs to be mentioned is my brand spankin' new compy. Meet Helga...

Ain't she a beaute. I feel a bit bad ditching my old lappy, but you know it was time for an update. Four (wonderful) years is about as far as I can draw it out. Lovin' the newness!

Beyond that I spent last weekend getting a few things done.... like hanging pictures and cleaning up.

(don't you just love that I take pictures of everything?)

Now I'm looking for a headboard, a steamer trunk, and a kitchen table. A few more trips to Goodwill and visits to Craig's List ought to do the trick.

Back from a Birthday Weekend in Portland

We just got back from a wonderful weekend with Dasta in Portland. Noonan and I drove out Friday night and got in around 9:30. We met Sara at a friends house party, and started drinking ASAP to usurer in my 23rd.

The party was fun, but we crashed hard once we got to her place. 8 hours of work + 3 hours of driving + 3 hours of partying = Coma

The next day my montra became... "But it's my birthday" (insert protruding lower lip.) We went to brunch and I worked it to get Dasta to pay for me. It was a pretty incredable breakfast and super fancy for the price.

In the afternoon Dasta, Noonan, Dasta's friend Corbin, and I went downtown to check out the Bullseye Glass Gallery. Dasta works at the Bullseye Glass Factory as a receptionist, so she wanted to show us some work from the artists that use her company's glass.

Afterwords we wondered around some more looking in stores and stuff, then watched a couple of episodes of the original Office.

At 6:00 we headed over to the Bullseye Glass Factory for an emerging artist show in their showroom.

One of the ways that Dasta convinced us to come out was by telling us there would be free wine and food at the opening. The food part was true and no complaints here. The wine however was $2 and none of us had any cash. Dasta, I must say, managed to make up for it though. She worked it and scored one drink ticket from a co-worker. And being a good friend gave it to me as a gift. The glass was cool, but honestly the people watching was much better.

As the night got later there were some artist name tags still left on the table each of which had 2 drink tickets inside. With me as her wing man Dasta swiped a couple and we partook in more vino.

We left boozed up and with new identities. Noonan called Kevin O'Toole, Dasta was Jude Scholtzhauer, and I was Brendan McSheehy III. Donning our name tags we went to another house party where there was much flippy cup and debauchery.

Birthdays are great!

Thrift Store Furniture

I thought I'd show of a pair of apartment thrift store finds. The first is a pair of high backed walnut chairs I got from Goodwill. And the best part is they were only $8 for the set. When I got them one was about to pull apart. The glue joints were popping out, so I've spent the weekend regluing.

As you can see I have only one clamp, so I've come up with a couple of unorthodox rigs to hold the frame in place as it dries.

The second item is something I found in a thrift store the first week in Seattle. It's a coffee table I got for $10, because one of the legs was broken. I fixed it with some wood glue and a small screw and now it's the strongest leg in the bunch.

The third item is my dresser. For a crisp new $20 bill I scored this beauty.

I just put on the legs for the first time yesterday and think it adds a lot. (hehe)

Finally there is my behemoth desk. This was the most expensive of the group at $30, but I have been enjoying it thoroughly.

I cannot express the deep love I have for thrift store furniture.

My furniture theme has been "What would Bob Newheart do?" And once I get a few more pieces in here I think it will come together nicely.

(here are some of the things I brought with me... There will be pictures of the entire place soonish. I'm not quite ready for the full tour.)

Monkey

So I know your all wondering why the monkey is the same. I decided I like this one so much that I want to keep it until the end of October. I posted it so late last month that it deserves at least a full month. I do, however, have a cool idea for the next one.

Estimate

So, I got the estimate for the damage on the Benz, and, drum roll please..................$4,648.26 Yeah, WOW is right. They say they'll need the car for a week and a half. I haven't sent it into the insurance yet, but I'm sure they're not going to be happy. But screw them I'm getting her back to the way she was 'cause that's what my baby deserves

Noonan News

Noonan officially has a job, so congratulations to him. He's working as an Audio/Video tech, setting up equipment for events and stuff. Good for him. Now we just need to get some friends. (sob)
